AN amateur treasure hunter who found a tiny gold brooch is celebrating today after it was identified as a medieval heirloom worth a whopping £25,000.
Lucky Stan Cooper — who has been metal detecting in his spare time for over 20 years — unearthed the precious pin in a farmer's field.
At first he wasn’t sure what he had found because the object — which is about the size of a pound coin — was covered in dirt.
But after it was cleaned Stan realised it was solid gold.
The delighted grandad described the discovery — found buried near Sandbach in Cheshire — as a “find of a lifetime.”
